Developed during a 4-month Residency at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York in 2011, where I was invited to create work related to eating and drinking, these ceramics started from the notion 'I hate tea!' combined with a dose of hardware inspiration.
The ceramics consists of a cup & saucer, a bowl and a teapot, all with
a plug detail. The saucer has imagery of a 'drain' hidden in the saucer.

Drinking coffee together is a century old ritual of social bon-ding. These cups celebrate the multiple layers of conversation and bonding. Studies have shown that coffee really can make people more talkative and social. Most exchanges consist of more than words alone. A conversation is a delicate balancing act on multiple levels, where spoken words can compete with what is left unsaid. Awkward situations arise, missed connec-tions happen, but also bonds are formed with the wink of an eye. In the end all parts combined form a coherent whole.

In a light-hearted way, this dinner set 'Dressed for Dinner' wants to illustrate the social aspects that are involved during that special night out. Dining involves so much more than eating alone. Be it a date, a dinner for work or a first meeting with the in-laws, we all know how anticipation of the event, lingering over the right wardrobe, getting dressed, attraction and seduction during the evening all are as much part of dining as enjoying the food itself.
